Learn how to keep your Demotect profile up-to-date, secure your credentials, and control your notification preferences.
1. Editing Your Profile
Your public profile is how the world sees you. To customize its appearance:
- Navigate to your Profile by clicking the User icon in the navigation bar.
- Click the Edit Profile button at the top of your feed.
- Here, you can upload a new Avatar and Banner image.
- You can also write a short Bio and add a link to your personal Website or portfolio.
2. Account Settings
Core account details are managed in your Settings panel.
- Display Name & Handle: You can change your Display Name and unique `@handle` at any time. Keep in mind that changing your handle will update your profile URL, and your old handle may be claimed by someone else.
- Display Language: Change the platform's primary language interface.
- Change Password: You can securely update your login password from the Account tab.
3. Account Deactivation & Safety
If you wish to leave the platform, you can deactivate your account from the Settings menu. However, to protect our users against account hijacking, deletions are not instant.
- The 30-Day Grace Period: Deactivating your account hides it from the platform immediately. However, it is securely held in a 30-day "Scheduled for Deletion" phase.
- Reactivation: If a malicious actor gains access to your account and deletes it, or if you simply change your mind, you can log back in at any time during those 30 days to instantly abort the deletion schedule.
- Permanent Deletion: Once the 30 days have passed, your account and all associated data are permanently wiped from our servers and cannot be recovered.
4. Privacy & Requesting Your Data
Under global privacy laws (such as GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to request a complete export of the personal data we retain. To request your data archive, please email us directly at privacy@demotect.com using the email address associated with your account.
