The Global Map is the centerpiece of Demotect. It allows you to explore architectural transformations, urban redesigns, and historical before-and-afters from anywhere in the world. Here is how to get the most out of it.
1. Navigation & 3D View
You can pan and zoom the map just like any standard map application. For a more immersive experience, you can switch to 3D Mode.
- Click the 3D Button (cube icon) in the top left corner of the map to instantly tilt the camera and view 3D buildings.
- Alternatively, hold the Ctrl key while clicking and dragging to manually adjust the pitch (tilt) and bearing (rotation) of your view.
2. Searching for Locations
In the top left corner of the map, you will find the Map Search bar. Start typing any city, exact address, or country, and the map will smoothly fly you directly to that location. The search auto-completes and handles worldwide destinations instantly.
3. Exploring Clusters & Posts
As you zoom out, individual posts group together into colored Clusters to keep the map clean and highly performant.
- Blue circles: Areas with a few posts.
- Yellow circles: Dense areas (10+ posts).
- Red circles: Highly active hotspots (100+ posts).
Clicking on any cluster will automatically zoom you into that region and slide open the Right Panel, displaying a scrollable feed of all the posts located in that exact area.
4. Pinned Posts & Deep Links
While browsing your Home Feed, a user's Profile, or a specific Thread, you will often see a location tag (e.g., "London, GB") underneath the Before/After slider.
Clicking this tag acts as a deep link. It transports you straight to the Global Map, drops a distinctive amber Pin at those exact coordinates, and smoothly flies the camera to the location. You can clear this pin anytime by clicking the "Clear" button next to the search bar.
5. Adding Your Own Posts to the Map
You can populate the map with your own creations! When creating a new post, simply use the "Add location..." search bar in the composer to search and select your exact address.
Community Map Proposals
If you see a post on the map that is placed in the wrong location, you can click the "..." menu on that post and select "Suggest Location Correction". The community will then vote on your proposal, and if accepted, the map will be corrected automatically and you will earn Reputation!
